Maggot, a former Big Brother housemate and rapper from Goldie Lookin' Chain is used to touring around Wales encountering some very 'wild-life'. But he is on the look out for a very different kind of wildlife when he takes on the challenge to learn about endangered species around Wales in the BBC ONE Wales - Saving Planet Earth programme. In the programme, self-confessed city-boy Maggot learns about the plight of the most threatened animal species in Wales and talks to the people who are trying to save them The red squirrel is the final endangered animal Maggot encounters on his trek, meeting up with Brechfa based forest manager Huw Denman at work in a forest in Carmarthenshire. Huw tells Maggot that with less than 1,000 red squirrels left in Wales the species was on the brink of extinction just five years ago. Denman explains thatthrough a program of trapping grey squirrels, which carry a virus deadly to the reds, they are encouraging the indigenous species in the area.
