"I've appeared on TV a great many times in my life". My first appearance was when I was 6. It was an advert for British Telecom and starred Joanna Lumley. She came to our village of Brechfa to open a telephone exchange. So they roped in everybody in the village to wave flags and cheer. They even hired a black man (which most of the kids in the village had never seen) to make us appear less backward. He had never had as much attention and had a great time with everyone pointing at him. We didnt get paid but there was a large bin full of ice and cans of pop, which we could help ourselves to, a decision they came to regret. None of the kids had ever seen this much Lilt (the totally tropical taste) in one place before and continued to drink as much as we could for as long as we could. This meant that when it came to filming, more often than not all the children were ******* against the back of the telephone exchange or running amok due to being off their **** on sugar and pineapple.
